In1891,Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro molded the first examples of the Andorinha [Swallow], one of his most iconic creations, which would go on to decorate houses and streets in Portugal and abroad and become a symbol of the Portuguese soul. In the 21st century, Raphael’s original drawing was recovered at the factory and the five existing molds in the factory were identified and recovered. After a long and complex process of testing pigments and glazes, the bluish-black color of the original painting was achieved, resulting in the most beautiful and faithful Portuguese swallows. A new chapter in this story is now beginning, with the launch of a larger Andorinha, where the details are even more vivid and detailed, featuring the unrivalled stamp of the brand’s craftsmen.
